Advanced Clinical Skills Workshop

Participants in this half day workshop will have the opportunity to practice infrequent skills in emergency care, including advanced airway management and chest tube insertion. Presenters for the day bring clinical experience and skills in the fields of Emergency Medicine, Anaesthetics, and Paramedicine to the workshop, providing participants with a broad perspective.

Writing for Publication Workshop

This workshop is free of charge, spaces are limited.
Interested in publishing a journal article? Have the basis of a journal article but need some help getting it to the next step? This workshop will provide an opportunity to develop the right skills and the right approach to getting your idea on paper and in print and will address the what, why when and where of publishing.
Topics to be included are:
- Developing an approach to writing
- Organising and structuring your writing
- Understanding editorial criticism
- Getting your article accepted for publication
- Plagiarism and ethics in publications
Participants should bring with them a 250-300 word summary of their writing concept or project, this can be an early draft of an abstract or an introduction to the project. This will be used to assist participants to refine their writing.
Presenters:
Dr Kathleen Doherty, Senior Research Fellow (Translational Research) with the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre, University of Tasmania
Dr Doherty has an in translational research and effective service delivery in health care settings and in developing research skills in novice researchers. She has supervised numerous Honours, Masters and PhD candidates at the University of Tasmania, University of South Australia and University of Adelaide. She joined the University of Tasmania in a Research Development role in 2008
Mr Dale Edwards, Senior Lecturer, Director of Program Development and Innovation, Director of Research, Division of Paramedicine, University of Tasmania.
Mr Edwards has 25 years’ experience in Paramedicine and has held roles including associate editor and managing editor for the Australasian Journal of Emergency Care in the past, he now reviews articles for a wide range of journals. He joined the University of Tasmania in 2005 and now coordinates the post graduate programs in Paramedicine and is responsible for building the research profile of the division.
